New Heat Pump Cost in Venice: Range, Panel and Duct Test

If you are pricing a new heat pump in Venice, the new heat pump cost comes down to a range and four or five site conditions. We install heat pump systems as the preferred choice for Venice homes, and the quote is written before work starts. To get your figure, ask for the written heat pump quote with a few details about the house.

What a new heat pump costs in Venice

For a typical 1,200-square-foot Venice bungalow, a single-zone heat pump install runs between $4,800 and $7,500 depending on electrical panel capacity and whether your existing ductwork passes a Title 24 leak test. Our heating installation service covers heat pump and gas furnace installs.

That figure is for a single zone in a bungalow of that size. A larger house, a second story, a duplex or a multi-zone layout is a different job with its own quote. We do not stretch the bungalow range over those.

The two conditions named in the range are the ones to settle first. Everything else in this post adds to or trims the scope around them.

Panel capacity and the duct test set most of the number

The electrical panel. A heat pump runs on electricity, so it adds load. Venice is in the City of Los Angeles, and electric service is LADWP (see our Venice page). If your panel has room for a new circuit, the tie-in is routine. If it does not, panel work goes on the quote as its own line, and you see it before you agree.

The duct leak test. On a change-out, Title 24 Part 6 can require duct sealing and a duct leakage test, depending on the scope. A third-party HERS rater who is not the installer verifies the result. Ducts that pass stay in place. Ducts that fail get sealed or partly replaced, and that work is added to the quote. Our ductwork services crew handles the repair on the same project.

Other items that move a heat pump quote

  • Outdoor unit location. A rear pad is simple. A side yard barely wider than the unit, a roof platform or a spot reached across a walk street takes more time and handling.
  • Line set route. A short open run costs less than one through plaster or a finished ceiling that must be patched.
  • Sidewalk staging. Where a unit has to be craned or carried in from the street, we handle the city permit for sidewalk staging.
  • Salt-air protection. Equipment within a few blocks of the sand needs corrosion-rated coils from day one, and the quote names the protection.
  • Gas line work. If the old system was a gas furnace, the quote says what happens to the gas line.

Ductless or ducted: a quote that shows both

Some Venice homes have no ducts at all. Converted bungalows, live-work lofts near Abbot Kinney and canal-front cottages were never built for ducting. Running new ducts through plaster costs real money, and a ducted heat pump is not always the cheaper route.

In those homes we price a ductless mini split next to the ducted option. The outdoor unit is small enough for a narrow side yard or a roof bracket, and a ductless system heats and cools without touching the walls. In the Venice Canal Historic District, visible rooftop equipment can trigger a city design check, and ductless is the standard fix there. You see both prices, then pick.

The permit and the checks on a Venice heat pump

Replacing a furnace, heat pump, AC or ductwork in California is permitted work. In Venice the permit comes from LADBS, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. The permit is a line on your quote, and we schedule the inspection.

Two more checks belong on the quote:

  • Refrigerant. Since 1 January 2025, new residential split AC and heat pump systems are made with lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32.
  • Efficiency ratings. The quote lists SEER2 for cooling and HSPF2 for heating.

If a gas furnace or gas appliance stays in the house, California law requires carbon monoxide alarms. Gas in Venice comes from SoCalGas.

FAQ

What does a new heat pump cost for a Venice bungalow?

For a typical 1,200-square-foot Venice bungalow, a single-zone heat pump install runs between $4,800 and $7,500 depending on electrical panel capacity and whether your existing ductwork passes a Title 24 leak test.

Will my panel need an upgrade?

It depends on the panel and the size of the new system. The technician checks it at the site visit. If panel work is needed, it appears as its own line on the quote.

Do I need a new permit for a heat pump swap?

Yes. Replacing a heat pump, furnace or AC in California is permitted work. In Venice the permit comes from LADBS, and the permit cost is a line on your quote.

Can you install a heat pump in a home with no ducts?

Yes. For those homes we price a ductless mini split alongside the ducted option, so you can compare before deciding.
