Duct Replacement Cost in Venice Homes

Duct replacement cost in Venice is hard to pin down from a phone call, because no two houses are built alike. An older bungalow with a low crawlspace and a newer beach condo have almost nothing in common underneath the finishes.

This page explains what tells you ducts are done, what moves the price and why a written quote beats a guess. We do not print a duct price here because the number depends on your house, not an average.

Signs ducts need replacing

Ducts fail quietly. Watch for these:

  • Rooms that never get comfortable even when the system runs
  • Dust blowing out of registers soon after you clean
  • A musty smell when the system starts, common near the canals
  • Visible tears, crushed sections or loose joints in the crawlspace or attic
  • Insulation that is wet, matted or missing from the duct wrap

Sometimes sealing or a partial repair is enough. If the damage is spread through the system, or the material is old and brittle, replacing the run is the sounder fix. A duct inspection tells you which. Our ductwork services page covers repair and replacement.

What sets the price: length, access, insulation, registers

Four things do most of the pricing.

FactorWhy it moves the price
LengthMore duct run means more material and more labor. A long run to a back bedroom costs more than a short one.
AccessOpen crawlspace, tight attic or finished ceilings. Hard access means more hours.
InsulationNew insulated duct costs more than bare, and insulation helps keep delivered air where you want it.
RegistersThe count, size and placement of registers and returns. Moving them means cutting and patching.

Other items can add to the total. Rebuilding the plenum, adding a return, sealing and patching drywall all change the quote. Permit and testing time count too.

None of this gets settled by a general number. Duct size also ties to your equipment, so a duct job sometimes pairs with a change-out. If a system swap is on the table, look at AC installation as well.

Title 24 duct testing

Replacing ducts is permitted work in California. In Venice the permit comes from LADBS, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety.

Under Title 24 Part 6, California's Building Energy Efficiency Standard, duct work can require sealing and a duct leakage test depending on the scope. A third-party HERS rater, who is not the installer, verifies the result.

This is a cost to plan for. The test, the rater visit and any resealing after a failed result belong in the quote. If a bid skips them, ask why.

Crawlspaces near the beach

Many Venice homes run ducts through a crawlspace, and the beach changes what you find down there.

  • Moisture: coastal air and old drainage can leave the crawlspace damp, which wears out duct wrap and promotes mildew.
  • Clearance: low floors and tight lots limit how a crew moves and how big a piece can go in.
  • Corrosion: salt air is hard on metal straps, fittings and any exposed hardware.
  • Pests: gaps around old ducts are an easy way in for rodents.

A good plan picks materials and supports that suit a damp, salty space, and it seals the new run well. If you smell mustiness, pair duct work with an air check through indoor air quality.

Access to the crawlspace can be the biggest price driver in a Venice home. A crew that can work comfortably in a roomy crawlspace finishes faster than one that has to stage everything from a hatch.

Written quote

We write the quote before work starts. It lists the scope in plain terms, so you can compare it line by line with any other bid.

A solid duct quote names:

  • How much duct is coming out and going in
  • Where the crew enters and how the space is protected
  • The insulation type and the registers and returns
  • Permit, HERS testing and inspection
  • Patching or finish work, if any

To get it, send the house layout. A rough sketch is fine. Tell us where the equipment sits, which rooms are hot or cold and whether there is a crawlspace, attic or both. Photos of the registers and any visible duct help a lot.

If your system is struggling in the meantime, our AC repair team can help. Repair callers are welcome, and we do not push replacement.

FAQ

How much does duct replacement cost in Venice?

It depends on run length, access, insulation and the number of registers. Testing and patching also count. We give a written quote after seeing your layout, not a guess over the phone.

Can I repair ducts instead of replacing them?

Often yes. Sealing joints, reconnecting loose runs and replacing a damaged section can fix a localized problem. If the material is worn throughout, replacement makes more sense.

Does duct replacement need a permit?

Yes. Replacing ductwork in California is permitted work, and in Venice LADBS issues the permit. Depending on the scope, Title 24 can also require a leakage test by a HERS rater.

Will replacing ducts help comfort?

It can, if leaks, crushed runs or poor layout are the cause. Equipment size and insulation matter too, so we look at the whole system before promising a change.

How long does the work take?

That depends on access and the size of the system. A small run in an open crawlspace goes faster than a full replacement through finished ceilings. The quote includes a schedule.
