Mounting and Placement Planning

Permits and Code
Installing a mini split in California is permitted work. Venice sits in the City of Los Angeles, so the permit comes from LADBS. Because a ductless system has no ducts to seal, the duct testing questions that come with a ducted change-out usually do not apply, though the scope of each job decides. Condo owners should also check whether the HOA must approve outdoor equipment before work is booked.
New residential split systems use lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32, and efficiency is rated in SEER2 and HSPF2 for heat pump models. Electric service in Venice is LADWP, and a new circuit for the outdoor unit goes on the permit if the job needs one.
