New AC Installation in Venice: Placement, Sign-Off and Price

A new AC installation in Venice starts with a placement question before it is an equipment question. Walk streets, canal lots and shared walls decide where a condenser can go. Request the written installation quote and we will work out placement, sign-off and permit first, then price the system.

What a new AC installation costs in Venice

A typical single-zone installation in a Venice bungalow or condo runs between $5,800 and $9,400 depending on whether existing ductwork needs modification. Our AC installation service covers that scope from load calculation through the inspection.

Sound ducts can be reused, so a home with good ductwork lands lower in the range. Ducts that need changes add labor, material and testing. A second zone, a duplex or a whole-house layout is a different job, and its quote is written before work starts.

Where the condenser goes on a Venice lot

Walk-street bungalows and canal-front homes often leave nowhere obvious to set an outdoor unit. We use compact condensers for these lots, and we plan the carry-in route before the quote is written, not on install day.

Placement choices change the price:

  • Rear pad. The simplest option, when the lot has one.
  • Narrow side yard. Workable with a compact unit and a clear service path.
  • Roof platform or bracket. Takes more handling and more structure work.
  • A spot reached across a walk street. Adds carry time, and sometimes a sidewalk staging permit, which we handle.

The line set route counts too. A short open run costs less than one through plaster or a finished ceiling that must be patched.

Sign-off before install day

Some Venice addresses need approval before a unit can be set. We work that into the schedule so the install is not held up afterward.

  • Marina del Rey association sign-off. For properties in that area, the association approves equipment placement. We build it into the timeline.
  • Coastal-zone permitting. Where it applies to the address, it is scheduled alongside the city permit.
  • Design check. In the Venice Canal Historic District, visible rooftop equipment can trigger a city design check, and we check this when we choose a location.

Replacing or adding an AC in California is permitted work. Venice is a City of Los Angeles neighborhood, so the permit comes from LADBS, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. The permit is its own line on the quote and we schedule the inspection.

Salt air and the equipment you are buying

A unit within a few blocks of the sand needs corrosion-rated coils from day one. Standard coils near the beach corrode ahead of anything inland, and a failed line set or contact block can take the system down without warning. Our installs use marine-environment rated equipment with salt air corrosion protection, and the quote names the coil protection so you can see what is included.

Multi-zone design is available for duplexes and fourplexes, with one system sized to each unit's load. If an older cottage suits a ductless layout better than new ducts, see our ductless mini split service. We price it next to the ducted option when the house calls for it.

Code items on the quote

  • Title 24 Part 6. On a change-out it can require duct sealing and a duct leakage test, depending on the scope. A third-party HERS rater who is not the installer verifies it. That cost sits in the quote from the start.
  • Refrigerant. Since 1 January 2025, new residential split systems are made with lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32.
  • Efficiency rating. The quote lists the SEER2 rating of the system.
  • Power and gas. Electric service in Venice is LADWP, and gas is SoCalGas.

After the install, we run post-install performance verification before the inspection is booked. If you are replacing a failed unit and the old one is still in place, the crew removes it and recovers the refrigerant.

What to send for the quote

You do not need a spec sheet. Send your address, whether the home is a house, duplex or condo, and where the old unit sits now or where you think a new one could go. A photo of the side yard or roof helps. With that, the technician arrives at the site visit with a placement plan, and the quote that follows names the system, the zone count and every change to ducts, line set and wiring.

FAQ

How much is a new AC installation in Venice?

A typical single-zone installation in a Venice bungalow or condo runs between $5,800 and $9,400 depending on whether existing ductwork needs modification. Duplexes and multi-zone layouts get their own written quote.

Can an AC fit on a walk-street lot?

Usually a compact condenser can be placed, and the site visit settles it. If a standard split cannot fit, we price a ductless mini split instead.

Who approves the permit?

LADBS issues the permit for Venice. We list it as a line on the quote and book the inspection.

Do you still repair an AC that is running?

Yes. Repair is a full service here. If the existing system is still running, we put a repair price and an installation price on paper and you choose.
